Railport is a new Intermodal Logistics Terminal built in the east-west trade corridor with the partnership of Arkas, one of the leading Turkish international holding companies, operating with a total of 67 companies in Türkiye and abroad, and duisport, the largest intermodal logistics terminal operator in Europe. Once finished, the terminal will be providing services in a total area of 265 thousand square meters. Linking the countries in Asia and the EU through the Iron Silk Road (the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway) and the European Railway respectively, Railport’s location has been selected so as to fulfill its ultimate goal: to function as a bridge for transportation not only between the countries in Asia and Europe, but also between those in Europe, Balkan and Central Asia (CIS). The new Intermodal Logistics Terminal will integrate Türkiye and Europe with the route from China to Central Asia, which extends to the Middle East, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Georgia through the Trans-Asian Railway Network within the scope of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

While our investment links Asia and Europe, it will also bring about a new service approach that gives cost advantage, respects the environment, creates advantages in delivery times, and most importantly, provides significant added value to our country's economy. Railport aims to contribute to the logistics service providers and all sectors involved in foreign trade by offering various opportunities for both railway and road transportation.

Railport Project

Planned to be in Kartepe District of Kocaeli Province, Railport is the first intermodal logistics terminal project to be launched in Türkiye. As a terminal that allows to use two different transportation modes, primarily railway and road; Railport will become a leading dry port in the sector. With the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway connection and the fact that the Marmaray Tunnel has been opened for freight transportation, it is expected that Railport will literally become a hub that is directly connected to the trade lines across a wide route, ranging from China to Europe. The goal of this project is to provide services to a broad range of countries, namely those between Asia and Europe, as well as among European, Balkan and Central Asian (CIS) countries. Thanks to its specific location, the project will also enable the transport of transit cargoes along with export and import cargoes.

In logistics, there is a need to create solutions that are in line with the requirements of various sectors. Both with the synergy created by the cooperation of Arkas and duisport, and expert teams and infrastructure, the aim is to offer the most suitable solution for different sectors. There are several issues such as optimal scheduling, wagon planning, tracking of operations, sectoral expertise and the integration of new technologies, which require utmost care and attention in some sectors. However, thanks to the long years of experience of Arkas and duisport, the new terminal aims to meet all customer expectations at the highest level. Railport is a project that produces less CO2 emissions compared to road transportation and invests in an eco-friendly transport mode as well. Moreover, customers are offered a transport option, namely railway transport, that has many advantages.

Some advantages of intermodal transport are as follows:

  • Causes 18 times less carbon emissions than road transport.
  • Suitable for heavy and high-tonnage goods.
  • A transportation mode that is least impacted by adverse weather conditions.
  • Provides transit time advantages.

Investment Process

There are three investment phases planned for the construction of the project. With its strategic location near Türkiye’s important ports, the Railport Terminal will operate with an annual capacity of 360,000 TEU containers, 1,5 million tons of general cargo, 122,000 CEU finished vehicles and 125,000 units of trailers at the final investment phase.
